Success! Hungarian chefs among the best in the world!

Ákos Sárközi, the chef of Borkonyha, and Ádám Mészáros, the chef of the Onyx Restaurant, are both on the list of the 100 best chefs running for The Best Chef 2020 award.

The nomination board of the award published the names of the 100 candidates in the first days of March. There will be a poll during which the best chef in the world will be elected. Voting starts on April 1, and food photographers, gastronomy experts, and gastronomists will be able to cast their ballot. Furthermore, the contestants of this year and from 2019 will also be able to vote, hvg reported.

The winner will be announced on the Food Meets Science conference organised between September 21-23 in the Rotterdam Markethal. Not only the name of the world’s best chef will be revealed there but also the names in the top 10. The real challenge and the real value of the award are that

the world’s best themselves choose the best of the best.

Most chefs come from the USA (10). They are followed by Spain (9), the Netherlands (7), the United Kingdom (7), France (6), and Brazil (6), but in the top 100, there are people from 28 countries. It is a great honour to the Hungarian gastronomy that there are two Hungarians in the top 100.

Ákos Sárközi is the chef of Borkonyha, a Michelin-star restaurant in Budapest, while Ádám Mészáros is the chef of the Onyx restaurant that has two Michelin stars and is also located in the Hungarian capital.

Last year, the award gala was organised in Barcelona, and the winner was Björn Frantzén, the chef of the Frantzén Restaurant of Stockholm, who is also the owner of The Flying Elk Gastropub, the Gaston Wine Bar, and the Zen Restaurant of Singapore. In second place came Joan Roca, the chef of the El Celler de Can Roca (Girona, Spain), while the bronze went to David Muñoz, who is leading the Diverxó in Madrid.
